June is traditionally the quiet month for birding in Israel, with almost no migration occurring. This is a good opportunity to look for the resident species and summer visitors, and a great time for seawatching at Eilat.
Nevertheless, some very late spring migrants such as Honey Buzzards may still occur early in the month, and by the end of it, Waders such as Tringa species and Oystercatchers can be found along the shore, representing the outset of the autumn migration.

Below is a summary featuring the most interesting observations from this month, based on reports from the ISRABIRDNET mailing list and other sources.

White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala): 1 over-summering at Revadim reservoire, 18/Jun onwards (E. Haddad).

Black Vulture (Aegyptius monachus): 1, age uncertain, soaring with Griffons over the upper cable station on Mt. Hermon, 08/Jun (N. Sapir et al.).

Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina): 1 at kibbutz Gonen fields, Hula valley, 08/Jun (I. Shanni). One month later then the rearguard mentioned in the Birds of Israel.

Eleonora’s Falcon (Falco eleonorae): 1 dark morph around the Hula nature reserve, 05-07/Jun (N. Sapir).

Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus): 2 at Ma’agan Michael beach, 26/Jun (J. Meyrav).

Collared Pratincole (Glareola pratincola): at least 40 pairs are present at the Hula reflooded area this season (I. Shanni).

Painted Snipe (Rostratula benghalensis): 2 males and a female reported at Menashe reservoire, west to Pardes Hanna, 02/Jun (Y. Eshbol, I. Eitan).

Lesser Crested Tern (Sterna bengalensis): 1 at Ma’agan Michael beach, 17/Jun (S. Halevi, A. Bluman, Y. Wasserlauf, Y. Setty), only the 5th report from the Israeli Med. coast.

Black Tern (Chlidonias niger): 1 at the Hula reflooded area, 02-05/Jun (Y. Perlman).
