Southern Israel, 25-28/Apr/2008

Tomer Landsberger

I spent the 25-28th of April birding in southern Israel with Avner Cohen and Mike Clacey. Henceforth is a short summary of the highlights:

Arctic Tern - 1-2 off Eilat's north beach on the eve of the 26th.

White-cheeked Tern - one at the same locality and date.

Yellow Wagtail ssp. lutea - 4 at Km 20 saltpans and 1 at Lotan.

White-throated Robin - we had the pleasure of seeing four males, part of an influx which produced over 20 sightings so far.

Pied Wheatear - an adult male was observed at Neot Semadars orchards on the 27th, apparentley also part of an invasion of this species.

River Warbler - 2 at Bahad 1 sewage and 1 at Be'erotayyim woods on the 25th.

Red-breasted Flycatcher - 1 at Bahad 1 sewage on the 25th.

Isabelline Shrike - a stuning male just north of Elifaz sewage ponds.

© Amir Ben Dov, whose trip coincided with ours, contributed the following photographs, including an additional two Pied Wheatears and White-throated Robins.
