For your information. The next 1 to 2 days will be a good time to keep your eyes open for the migrating ibis crossing Egypt/Israel/Palestine en route for Palmyra

Dear all,
Last night two of the ibises (Sultan 41880 and Zenobia 41881) roosted in northern Eritrea about 20 miles from the coast northwest of Gulbub. It appears that they are flying ahead of Salam 66327 because yesterday Zenobia and Salam gave simultaneous fixes over 500 km apart. Salam was about 150 km north of the wintering site, seemingly moving north.
It looks like they are going to head up the Sudanese coast through Egypt and Israel and completely miss Yemen and Saudi Arabia as it seems unlikely they will now cross the Red Sea at its widest. The attached map shows the approximate position of old records as grey circles. Southward route in pink, northward in red. I expect them to move quite quickly and not linger at any particular site.

What's the status of the Tel Aviv Univ bunch? Are any of them flying around the country or can we assume that any sighting is a "real" one? |

Whoever is interested, I have contacted the guy who is monitoring the Ibises movement.
As soon as the birds will get near to Eilat (that of course, if they do), he will notify me, and my general plan is to drive down south to search for them.
Please let me know if anyone wants to join. ---
